Events
Throughout the year downtown Waterbury is home to a number of fun, festive and quirky events. Revitalizing Waterbury is one of many local non-profit organizations that organize events that bring our community together, raise awareness about timely issues, encourage consumers to ‘buy local’ and entice visitors to explore Waterbury. Check out our Calendar for upcoming events. The events listed below are spearheaded by Revitalizing Waterbury.
The Art of Action: Shaping Vermont's Future Through Art
Waterbury will be a host community to The Art of Action exhibition April 2 - 14, 2010. The exhibit will be located at the American Legion Post 56 at 16 Stowe Street.
The Art of Action: Shaping Vermont’s Future Through Art is the result of a partnership between the Vermont Arts Council and visionary philanthropist Lyman Orton.
The project commissioned ten visual artists to create suites of artwork that address issues identified by Vermonters as essential to our State's economic, environmental and social future. Waterbury is one of 23 communities that will host the Art of Action "Artists' Choice Tour" that will include work chosen by the ten artists to specifically tour the state.
The work created for the Art of Action is informed by research conducted by the Council on the Future of Vermont. It is intentionally designed to inspire Vermonters to act toward attaining their vision for the future of our state, and to reaffirm that the state is 'the place to be' for creative and entrepreneurial leaders.
$pring for Waterbury
This event developed by RW in 2006 is a fundraiser for RW and a partner non-profit organization. It takes place during a typically slow April weekend for Waterbury businesses who are asked to either make a flat contribution or pledge a percentage of sales associated with that April weekend. A publicity campaign encourages shoppers and diners to ‘purchase with a purpose!’ The concept is to increase foot traffic, sales and customer loyalty for participating local businesses while raising awareness about our partner organization’s mission and activities.
There has been ‘$pring for the Station’, ‘$pring for the Swings’, ‘$pring for Good Neighbors’ and in 2009 the event was permanently renamed ‘$pring for Waterbury’ and the partner organization was Waterbury LEAP.
Our 2010 partner is the Waterbury-Duxbury Food Council.
